Ross Fire consumes over 80,000 acres in North Texas

The Ross Fire has rapidly expanded across Palo Pinto and Jack counties in Texas, consuming between 50,000 and 83,000 acres. Driven by extreme heat, dry conditions, and high winds, the blaze has caused significant destruction to homes, ranches, and structures, including the historic Worth Ranch Scout camp.

Mandatory evacuations have been issued for residents in southern Jack County and encouraged in Palo Pinto County. An evacuation center has been established at the Twin Lakes Activity Center in Jacksboro. While no fatalities have been reported, hundreds of residents have been displaced.

Containment levels have fluctuated between 5% and 12% as firefighting crews, supported by the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) and various municipal departments, work to establish lines and manage hot spots. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
