Rossini festivals and exhibition celebrate the composer in Pesaro and Mercatello
A new Salon Rossini concert took place on 28 July 2026 at 21:00 in the Church of San Francesco in Mercatello sul Metauro. The programme featured sacred works by Gioachino Rossini – the Stabat Mater and the Petite Messe Solennelle – performed by soprano Kanako Tominaga, mezzo‑soprano Hope Nelson, tenors Jiahui Mo and Yukang Zheng, with piano accompaniment by Christopher Knopp. The concert was part of the fifth edition of the Salons Rossini, a series of events organised by the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” 2026 and the Fondazione Rossini, and was free until seats were filled. The final two dates of the series were scheduled for 30 July in Montelabbate (Church of San Martino) and 31 July in Urbino (Palazzo Ducale courtyard).
From 28 July, Casa Rossini and the Museo Nazionale Rossini hosted an exhibition titled “Le Siège de Corinthe”, marking the 200th anniversary of the opera’s Paris debut. Curated by Concetta Assenza and Catia Amati with contributions from Damien Colas Gallet, Ilaria Narici and others, the show highlights the opera’s historical links to the Greek War of Independence and its themes of liberty and resistance. Local officials, including Mayor Andrea Bianca and Culture Assessor Daniele Vimini, praised the exhibition as part of Pesaro’s ongoing effort to promote its identity as a city of music.
