Rossini Opera Festival to open with ‘Le Siège de Corinthe’ in Pesaro
The 47th edition of the Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) will open on August 11 at the Auditorium Scavolini in Pesaro with a new production of ‘Le Siège de Corinthe’. Directed by Davide Livermore, the production features a libretto by Luigi Balochi and Alexandre Soumet, based on music by Gioachino Rossini.
This three-act lyrical tragedy, which originally debuted in Paris in 1826, is a French adaptation of Rossini’s earlier work, ‘Maometto II’. Livermore’s staging sets the action within a museum warehouse, using classical Greek ruins and crates to explore the tension between modern destruction and the preservation of historical beauty.
The performance features an international cast including Adrian Sâmpetrean, Matteo Roma, Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, and Maxim Mironov. The orchestra will be led by Carlo Rizzi, accompanied by the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Coro del Teatro Ventidio Basso. Additional performances are scheduled for August 14, 17, and 21.
