Rossmann and dm confirm deposit container returns in Germany
German drugstore chains Rossmann and dm-drogeriemarkt confirm they accept empty single-use beverage containers with the official deposit logo (DPG), despite most locations lacking automated deposit machines.
Under the German Packaging Act (VerpG), retailers that sell single-use beverage containers with a deposit logo are required to take them back. Rossmann stated that customers can return these items, such as plastic, glass, or cans, directly at the checkout. This practice is described as a long-standing procedure known to both staff and customers.
While Rossmann previously announced in Poland that it would remove deposit-eligible drinks from its assortment to avoid return obligations, the company clarified that no such steps are currently planned for its German operations.
