Rossmann customers fund Tigray school construction
Customers at Rossmann drugstores have purchased 50,000 specialized pens to fund the construction of a secondary school in Maigua, located in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia. The initiative was launched by journalist Marcin Meller through the MeBeata Foundation.
The pens, which feature colors inspired by the Ethiopian flag, are sold for 4.99 PLN each, with all proceeds dedicated to the building project. The effort aims to address the severe educational crisis in Tigray, where over one million children and adolescents are currently out of school following the conflict between 2020 and 2022. That conflict resulted in approximately 500,000 casualties and the destruction of nearly 90 percent of the region's school infrastructure. The new school in Maigua is intended to serve youth between the ages of 12 and 18.
