Rostec reports Su-57 engine withstands 2,000°C during maneuvers
The Russian state technology corporation Rostec has reported that the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet's engine can withstand internal temperatures of nearly 2,000 degrees Celsius during extreme combat maneuvers. This thermal endurance was demonstrated by test pilot Sergey Bogdan during the Aero India airshow, where the aircraft performed complex aerobatics, including a maneuver that brings the jet to a near-standstill in mid-air.
Rostec stated that these super-maneuverability capabilities are designed to help the aircraft evade incoming missiles. While the current Su-57 utilizes the AL-41F-1 engine, the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is developing the next-generation AL-51F engine, which is expected to enter service around 2030 to power the Su-57M1 variant. Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov has previously asserted that the Su-57 is comparable in quality to the American F-35.
