Rostock community cleans beaches for World Cleanup Day
As part of World Cleanup Day, the “Rostock räumt auf” initiative organized a community action day to clean up the city and coastal areas, including Warnemünde, Hohe Düne, and Markgrafenheide.
Participants, including employees from the Berlin-based company Norsan, focused their efforts on the beaches. Volunteers collected over 10 kilograms of waste, primarily consisting of cigarette butts and components from e-cigarettes. Organizers noted that while the beaches may appear clean at first glance, significant amounts of small debris are frequently recovered. The cleanup was timed ahead of forecasted autumn storms to prevent waste from entering the Baltic Sea.
