Rostock police breach apartment of armed man after suicide threat

Police in Rostock, Germany, carried out a multi‑hour intervention on Thursday after a 47‑year‑old man with a machete barricaded himself inside his apartment and threatened to kill himself. Negotiators and the elite Special Deployment Commando (SEK) were deployed. When verbal attempts failed, SEK forced entry by breaking down the door, subdued the man without resistance and arrested him. No officers or by‑standers were injured. The suspect was later transferred to a specialized psychiatric facility for treatment.

The incident follows a similar police operation involving the same individual that took place the previous year, prompting the use of both negotiation teams and the special unit in this latest response.
