Rostock trial over the murder of eight‑year‑old Fabian proceeds

The Landgericht Rostock entered its eleventh day of the criminal trial on 12 June 2026 concerning the 2025 killing of eight‑year‑old Fabian from Güstrow. A witness testified that he and the accused were at the pond where the boy’s body was later found before the police were officially notified, claiming he thought the scene involved pipes and only briefly used a mobile‑phone lamp.

The accused has so far remained silent, but her defence lawyer Thomas Löcker suggested she may break that silence later, possibly toward the end of the evidence‑gathering phase in August or September. Prosecutor Harald Nowack said he was not surprised by the prospect of a future statement. The case centres on allegations that the suspect lured Fabian from his home, drove with him to a rural area near Klein Upahl, and killed him with a knife.

The trial has drawn considerable public attention, with Fabian’s father and grandmother appearing in court and the father facing an investigation for false statements. The witness’s failure to alert authorities immediately after the discovery was described by the presiding judge as “hard to understand.”
