Rostock Zoo expects new gorilla birth in December
The Rostock Zoo has announced that a female gorilla named Yene is pregnant and is expected to give birth in December. The father of the offspring is a 15-year-old male named Kwame.
Yene has been at the zoo since 2012 and previously gave birth to a daughter, Kesha, in 2020. Zoo officials expressed optimism regarding the upcoming birth, noting Yene’s history of attentive care for her young. The birth is considered significant for the conservation of the species, which is listed as endangered in the wild.
