Rostock's Hanse Sail festival expects 500,000 visitors
The 35th Hanse Sail festival in Rostock will run for four days, from Thursday to Sunday, featuring around 120 vessels, including historic ships such as the 1887 Gaffelschoner Amphitrite and the German Navy frigate Brandenburg. The event offers a programme of about 250 activities, with stage shows, concerts, fireworks and hands‑on actions, and invites visitors to board participating boats.
Six main areas host the festivities: the Rostock city centre, Warnemünde, the city harbour, IGA‑Park, the marine base Hohe Düne and the Gehlsdorfer Ufer. Organisers urge attendees to use public transport and park‑and‑ride facilities, noting that a dedicated lane on the city highway will serve buses and emergency vehicles, and that the core of Warnemünde will be closed to through traffic on the weekend.
The festival is expected to attract roughly half a million visitors, continuing its role as the world’s largest annual traditional sailing gathering.
