Rota and Brazatortas launch astrotourism initiatives with municipal observatory and Starlight event

The municipality of Rota in Andalusia is preparing to open a new municipal astronomical observatory in the Mayetería district. The facility, built to take advantage of the upcoming triple solar eclipse, is expected to draw thousands of visitors and become a hub for scientific outreach and night‑sky tourism. Mayor José Javier Ruiz Arana said the town aims to become a focal point for eclipse‑related activities and to promote long‑term astrotourism.

In Ciudad Real, the town of Brazatortas will host a dedicated astrotourism day on 7 August at the Mirador Starlight. Organized by the active‑tourism company Esternatureco, the event will offer guided sky‑watching sessions under the region’s exceptionally dark and clear skies. Mayor Pablo Toledano highlighted astroturismo as a growing economic and cultural engine for the municipality, emphasizing the town’s Starlight certification for low light‑pollution conditions.
