Rota residential fire leads to dramatic rescue and hospitalizations

A fire broke out in a ground-floor duplex on Antonio Ordóñez Avenue in Rota, leading to a dramatic rescue attempt. After an initial evacuation, a strong explosion occurred inside the building, prompting the resident to re-enter the smoke-filled premises in an attempt to save his cat.

Emergency responders and bystanders intervened to prevent further tragedy. Three individuals—two men aged 67 and 42, and a woman aged 42—were treated for severe smoke inhalation at the Hospital Santa María de El Puerto de Santa María. All three were later discharged after receiving oxygen therapy. The ground floor of the property was completely destroyed, and the building has been sealed pending a structural inspection by municipal technicians to determine the cause of the blaze.
