Rota to develop 1.5 million euro technological hub near naval base

The Rota City Council has been awarded a grant of 1,278,000 euros from Red.es, an entity under the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, to launch the ‘Rota Aeronaval Tech’ initiative. The project involves a total investment of 1.5 million euros, with 85% of the funding provided by Red.es and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The initiative aims to transform the area surrounding the Rota Naval Base into a technological hub, focusing on advanced engineering, defense, and logistics. Key components of the project include a center for additive manufacturing in defense using 3D printing, a regulated sandbox for testing drones and autonomous vehicles, and a specialized laboratory for industrial sensor manufacturing.

Additionally, the plan includes the creation of a digital twin of the local aeronaval ecosystem, an AI-driven data analysis platform, and a startup accelerator to foster a local technological industrial fabric.
