Argentina celebrates Mother's Day in October

Argentina celebrates Mother's Day on the third Sunday of October. The tradition has religious roots, stemming from a 1931 initiative by Pope Pius XI, who dedicated October 11 to the “Divine Maternity of Mary.” Following this, the Argentine government under José Félix Uriburu established a celebration near that date, which eventually solidified as the third Sunday of the month.

While many countries, such as Chile, Brazil, and the United States, celebrate in May, Argentina maintains its October tradition. Modern celebrations in the country have evolved from purely religious or domestic-focused observances to broader family gatherings involving dining out, cultural events, and community activities.

Various cities across Argentina are hosting events for the occasion. In Buenos Aires, restaurants are offering special menus, while Rosario features cultural walks and book fair activities. Other municipalities, such as Corrientes and Clodomira, have organized free musical performances, sports activities, and artisan fairs to honor mothers.
