Rotary Club of Abuja launches free hepatitis screening and education support for vulnerable families

The Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond organized a free medical outreach in the Chika community of the Abuja Municipal Area Council on World Hepatitis Day 2026. The event provided hepatitis screening, vaccination, free consultations and a range of health supplies such as mosquito nets, delivery kits, sanitary pads, diapers, soap, bleach, deworming medication and hygiene items. President Olutola Ogunyemi said the initiative complements government efforts to expand access to quality healthcare for underserved residents, while project chair Adeleke Shola Ayanronke reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to sustainable health interventions.

In a separate effort, the Rotary Club of Abuja Gwarinpa Central announced an education support programme for indigent pupils in the Federal Capital Territory. Club president Ama Umoren pledged to pay school fees, supply school bags and improve learning facilities, citing overcrowded classrooms and lack of furniture as major challenges. Family sponsor Benjamin Okoko committed to covering the fees and providing desks and accessories. The programme aims to address barriers to education highlighted by former House of Representatives member Onofiok Luke, who noted that an estimated 20 million Nigerian children remain out of school.
