British Columbia municipalities open 2026 local election nominations
Various municipalities across British Columbia have initiated the nomination process for the 2026 general local elections. In the District of Kent and Harrison Hot Springs, nomination packages for mayor, council, and school board positions are being made available, with the formal nomination period set to run from September 1 to September 11.
Other regions, including Kimberley and Creston, have also issued notices for candidates seeking office as mayor, councillor, or school trustee. These notices outline specific eligibility requirements, such as Canadian citizenship and residency within the province, as well as campaign expense limits for various positions.
In the Okanagan region, the North Okanagan Labour Council has opened applications for candidate endorsements. The council, representing various unions, is seeking to support candidates for mayor, municipal council, regional district, or school board who align with organized labour's priorities, including housing affordability and living wages. Applications for endorsement must be submitted by September 18, with announcements expected on October 8.
