Roth fails to hold planned Sunday shopping event

A planned Sunday shopping event in Roth, Germany, failed to materialize on August 9, leaving local residents unable to shop despite prior announcements. Mayor Andreas Buckreus attributed the failure to the termination of a contract with a previous service provider responsible for organizing markets and festivals, which are typically linked to these shopping days.

Buckreus noted that the city cannot organize such markets independently. Currently, the city's statutes require Sunday shopping to be accompanied by market events. To prevent future occurrences, the mayor indicated that the city intends to amend these statutes to allow for standalone Sunday shopping opportunities.
