Rotterdam accessibility upgrades delayed by budget constraints
Rotterdam Alderman Sabine Biesheuvel has informed the Hillesluis district council that upgrading the Beijerlandselaan to meet modern accessibility standards requires a significant budget that is currently unavailable. While the street meets outdated guidelines, full compliance with current standards necessitates a larger-scale approach.
The municipality is addressing maintenance issues through existing teams and is in ongoing communication with the transport company RET regarding infrastructure under their ownership. Major accessibility upgrades on the Beijerlandselaan will likely be deferred until larger maintenance projects are scheduled.
Other areas in Hillesluis are also under review. A preliminary design for the Beijerlandsepassage has been drafted, with a cost estimate currently in progress. Additionally, plans are underway for the Kokerstraat and Polderlaan areas, including the reservation of funds for extra parking spaces during the redevelopment of Wapenstraat and Schildstraat.
