Rotterdam and Zoetermeer address mobility scooter storage issues
In Rotterdam, the political party PRO is calling for a municipal investigation into the safe storage and charging of mobility scooters within residential complexes. Council members Jelle Jaspar and Pieter Boshuizen have submitted formal inquiries to the city's executive, citing concerns from residents who lack adequate facilities. Key issues include insufficient power supply in communal basements, storage units that are too small, and the inability to remove batteries for indoor charging. The party also highlighted fire safety risks associated with charging batteries in common areas.
In Zoetermeer, a specific resolution was reached for residents at the Granietgroen location. Following advocacy by resident Wil Hebink, the housing corporation Vidomes has provided a dedicated, secured space near the main entrance. This area has been equipped with eight electrical outlets to allow for safe charging, addressing a conflict between the need for mobility and strict fire safety regulations regarding common escape routes.
