Rotterdam green spaces face criticism over neglect, says Party for the Animals

The Party for the Animals (Partij voor de Dieren) submitted written questions to the Rotterdam municipal council demanding answers on the condition of the city’s green infrastructure. The party alleges that many planting boxes across districts are insufficiently maintained, leading to dead or dried‑out vegetation, and that the quality of care varies between neighborhoods.

It also raised concerns about inadequate watering during the current drought, lack of protective barriers against vandalism, and the absence of a systematic monitoring programme. The party asked the council to disclose the standards used for green‑space management, to map locations with poor upkeep, and to outline concrete plans for improving sites such as the Hendrick Croesinckstraat, a side street of Pieter Klapwijkstraat, and the Beijerlandselaan, while ensuring no budget cuts affect nature maintenance.
