Rotterdam plans new social housing on Texelsestraat site

A large vacant lot has appeared in Rotterdam-Zuid following the demolition of the Iglesia di Dios church building. The site, located between Pleinweg, Ebenhaezerstraat, and Texelsestraat, previously housed a building that served as a nursery in 1958 and was later used by the Salvation Army and the Iglesia di Dios church.

Following consultations with local residents, housing corporation Woonbron intends to construct a new apartment complex on the site. The project aims to address a shortage of accessible social housing in the Carnisse neighborhood, specifically targeting elderly residents who wish to remain in the area as they age.

The development is part of a broader urban improvement initiative by the Municipality of Rotterdam to enhance living environments and public spaces. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.
