Rotterdam The Hague Airport decision challenged by residents group

The Residents Against Aircraft Nuisance (BTV) group has formally challenged the draft airport decision for Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA). In a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives, the group alleges that the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management provided incomplete and incorrect information regarding the proposal.

BTV claims that critical issues concerning noise, safety, nitrogen levels, hazardous substances, and nature conservation have not been sufficiently addressed. They cite findings from an independent Commission mer stating that essential studies are missing. Furthermore, the group points to legal and economic vulnerabilities, noting that the Gelderland District Court has ruled a nature permit is required for RTHA.

Economic research by Leo Bus and Walter Manshanden also suggests the current economic foundation does not meet the requirements of the Aviation Policy. BTV chairman Alfred Blokhuizen has called on Parliament to withhold approval of the decision until these deficiencies are corrected and missing research is completed to avoid risks at the Council of State.
