Rotterdam The Hague Airport environmental report found deficient
The independent Commission for Environmental Impact Assessment has concluded that the environmental impact report (MER) intended to guide future decisions for Rotterdam The Hague Airport is critically deficient.
The Commission identified several missing elements, including crucial data on noise levels, actual flight routes, flight safety, nitrogen emissions, and monitoring protocols. Specific issues cited include the use of outdated data, a failure to account for the noise generated by taxiing aircraft, and insufficient consideration of flight path deviations over residential areas like Hillegersberg and Schiebroek.
BTV-Rotterdam, an association that successfully petitioned the Council of State to mandate an airport decision by April 30, 2027, stated that the government has had since 2014 to resolve these issues. Chairman Alfred Blokhuizen emphasized that decisions for the coming decades cannot be based on incomplete information or models that do not reflect the reality of flight patterns over homes.
