Rotterdam threatens ACIBADEM IMC with fines over noise pollution

The municipality of Rotterdam has threatened the ACIBADEM IMC medical center with administrative fines if noise pollution from its technical installations is not addressed by October 1. According to Alderman Sabine Biesheuvel, the facility faces fines of 5,000 euros per violation, up to a maximum of three penalties.

Local residents in the Feijenoord district have reported noise disturbances following renovations at the medical center. Measurements conducted by the DCMR Milieudienst Rijnmond confirmed that the facility's technical equipment exceeds the noise limits established in the local environmental plan.

ACIBADEM IMC has implemented some mitigation steps, such as installing ventilation grilles, but the rooftop climate installation remains a significant issue. To manage the impact, the center has stated it will only use the installation during the day and will postpone the use of operating rooms until noise-reducing measures are fully realized. A sound barrier has been ordered and is expected to be installed by mid-September, after which the DCMR will verify compliance with noise standards.
