Rotterdam to install permanent fencing on Coolsingel

The municipality of Rotterdam will install permanent fencing on the Coolsingel during the week of September 7 to improve pedestrian safety. The barriers will be placed near the Zara location to prevent pedestrians from crossing the roadway and tram tracks outside of designated zebra crossings.

Local authorities investigated the possibility of adding an extra zebra crossing, but determined it was unsafe due to tram switches and the current layout. The new fencing is intended to guide pedestrians toward existing, safe crossing points. The project is expected to be completed by mid-October, and the street will remain accessible to both vehicles and pedestrians during construction.
