Rotterdam wind farm sparks debate over turbine distance norms

The political party DENK Rotterdam has raised questions regarding the development of the Beneluxplein wind farm following a proposed national distance standard for onshore wind turbines. The proposed norm suggests that the distance between a turbine and residential homes should generally be at least twice the height of the turbine's tip. For a 200-meter turbine, this would require a minimum distance of 400 meters.

DENK parliamentary leader Faouzi Achbar is seeking clarification on how close the planned Beneluxplein turbines will be to the nearest residences and whether the current plans comply with these proposed standards. He has requested that the city council commit to not using any available exemptions to deviate from this new norm.

Additionally, the party is inquiring about the potential impact on residents regarding noise, shadow flicker, and light reflection. Achbar emphasized the need to ensure that local residents are not disproportionately burdened by the energy transition and requested information on how many homes and inhabitants would fall within the specified distance threshold.
