Roujin Z 4K remaster theatrical release announced

A 4K remastered version of the cult classic science fiction anime ‘Roujin Z’ is scheduled for theatrical release to commemorate the film’s 35th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of Tokyo Theatre.

Originally released in 1991, the film features a highly acclaimed creative team, including original story, script, and mechanical design by Katsuhiro Otomo, character designs by Hisashi Eguchi, and direction by Hiroyuki Kitakubo. The production involved several prominent animators who later became industry leaders.

The story explores themes of AI and an aging society, centering on a fully automated nursing bed equipped with a miniature nuclear reactor that begins to malfunction. The limited engagement will begin on December 18, 2026, at Theatre Shinjuku and Theatre Umeda, followed by a nationwide release in the spring of 2027.
