Roula Pispirigkou faces second-instance trial in Athens

The second-instance trial for Roula Pispirigkou regarding the death of her 9-year-old daughter, Giorgina, has commenced at the Mixed Misdemeanor Court of Appeals of Athens. Pispirigkou arrived at the courthouse on Friday morning, appearing to use a walking stick due to reported mobility issues related to an autoimmune condition.

The legal proceedings involve charges of both completed and attempted intentional homicide. In the first-instance trial, the court found Pispirigkou unanimously guilty and sentenced her to life imprisonment. That original verdict addressed two specific events: an incident on April 11, 2021, and the child's death on January 29, 2022.

The defense is expected to challenge the initial ruling during this new judicial cycle. This case remains a significant matter of public interest in Greece.
