Roussa villagers volunteer to build house for young couple

Residents of the mountainous village of Roussa, located in the Soufli municipality of Evros, have come together to voluntarily build a house for a young couple who chose to settle in the area. The community members, including residents from Bektashides and Alevites, have been providing manual labor during their free time to support the new family.

Panagiotis Kalakikos, the Mayor of Soufli, highlighted the initiative as a profound example of social solidarity and humanity. He noted that the residents do not remain mere spectators to their neighbors' needs but actively stand by one another. This collective effort is seen as a way to combat the demographic challenges facing the Evros region by supporting young people who wish to remain in their local communities.

Deputy Mayor Dimitris Darousis also described the initiative as a model for others to follow, noting that such mutual aid is a long-standing characteristic of the mountain villages in the region.
