Route 195 fatal wrong-way crash near Jackson Mills
A wrong-way driver caused a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Route 195 near Jackson Mills on Wednesday night. The driver, identified by State Police as 73-year-old William H. Wright of Brick, was driving a Ford SUV westbound in the eastbound lanes near Exit 22.
According to authorities, Wright’s vehicle struck another Ford SUV and a Toyota around 9 p.m. Both Ford SUVs overturned in the collision, resulting in the death of Wright. Four other individuals—the driver and a passenger from the Toyota, and two passengers from the second Ford SUV—were transported to hospitals with minor injuries. Their identities have not been released.
Route 195 eastbound was closed for several hours between Exit 22 and Exit 28 for the investigation, remaining closed into Thursday morning. State Police noted this was the first fatal crash on Route 195 and the 24th fatal crash in Ocean County. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
