Route 5 infrastructure: Deputy Falcone warns of safety risks
National Deputy Eduardo Falcone has warned of the growing dangers on National Route 5 due to abandoned infrastructure projects and increased heavy traffic. During a meeting in Mercedes, Falcone highlighted that the road's width has remained unchanged since the 1960s, despite a massive increase in vehicle flow.
Falcone noted that the stretch between Mercedes and Suipacha is currently seeing paralyzed highway works. He expressed particular concern regarding the high volume of heavy transport vehicles traveling toward the Vaca Muerta oil field, warning that these units could destroy the road surface and increase the risk of fatal accidents if structural improvements are not implemented.
To address these issues, the legislator proposed regional mobilizations and a new financing scheme that could include tolls for heavy transport destined for Vaca Muerta to fund the conversion of the route into a dual carriageway reaching Santa Rosa, La Pampa.
