Route PY07 duplication project begins in Hernandarias
Construction has commenced on the duplication of a 19.5-kilometer stretch of Route PY07 in Hernandarias, Paraguay. The project, funded by Itaipú Binacional, spans the section from the Tekotopa Environmental Center to the future Eastern Metropolitan Corridor.
According to Justo Zacarías Irún, the Paraguayan Director General of Itaipú, the work order was issued to the contractor, Consorcio Diseño Vial, on July 21. The project aims to increase road capacity, improve safety, and reduce congestion in the Alto Paraná department.
The infrastructure improvements include the construction of three viaducts, urban intersections, collector streets, and LED lighting. To promote sustainable mobility and accessibility, the project also incorporates cycle paths, pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, ramps for people with disabilities, and public transport stops.
Engineering studies indicate high traffic volume in the area, with approximately 50,000 vehicles and 90,000 people using the route daily, including nearly 2,000 trucks. The project is expected to benefit roughly 400,000 residents in Hernandarias and surrounding areas.
