Routine changes impact human mental health and pet care after summer break

The return to school and work routines following the summer break presents adjustment challenges for both humans and pets.

Psychologist Dilara Dalyan notes that 'post-holiday syndrome'—characterized by lethargy, lack of motivation, and difficulty concentrating—is a natural adaptation process. This transition can be exacerbated by changes in sleep patterns, often referred to as 'social jet-lag,' and the sudden influx of digital notifications and responsibilities after a period of relaxation.

Similarly, pets experience shifts in household dynamics as family members spend more time away. Veterinarian Murat Altunyuva advises that owners should maintain consistent feeding schedules and monitor activity levels to prevent weight gain caused by sedentary behavior. He suggests using feeding toys to provide mental stimulation and warns that persistent changes in appetite, behavior, or litter box habits should be addressed by a veterinarian.
