Rovin Deodat, veteran Guyanese broadcaster and educator, passes away

Guyana is mourning the death of veteran broadcaster and communications specialist Dr. Rovin Deodat, who passed away following a period of illness. A prominent figure in the nation’s media landscape, Deodat was widely recognized for his popular radio segment, ‘From Word to Word’, which educated listeners on the meaning, origin, and usage of language.

President Irfaan Ali described Deodat as a master of his craft whose voice served as a daily companion to generations of Guyanese. Former Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo also paid tribute, noting Deodat’s extensive professional contributions, which included crafting broadcasting legislation, training new broadcasters, and assisting in the introduction of internet services in Guyana.

Deodat held a PhD in Communications and was a mentor to many in the broadcasting industry. His work spanned roles as an educator, consultant, and advisor, leaving a significant impact on the development of the country’s communications and media-training sectors.
