Rovos Rail offers 15-day Copper Trail luxury journey through Africa
Rovos Rail, a Pretoria-based luxury travel company, offers a 15-day Copper Trail itinerary that spans 3,100 kilometres across Southern Africa. The journey begins at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and travels north through Zambia to Ndola, before following the Lobito Corridor through the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the Atlantic port of Lobito in Angola.
The route traverses the world’s second-largest copper reserve, which is located within Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. While the Benguela Railway in Angola has been rebuilt using Chinese funding, the rail sections through the Democratic Republic of the Congo currently require significant repair. The EU-funded Lobito Corridor aims to serve as a transcontinental transport link for moving resources from the copper belt to the coast.
