Roxana Lizárraga denies links to Cerimedo case

Former Bolivian Communications Minister Roxana Lizárraga has denied any professional, economic, or political links to consultant Fernando Cerimedo. She addressed recent social media claims attempting to connect her to the investigation involving Cerimedo, explaining that the association stems from her ex-husband, lawyer Ramiro Vega, who initially took on Cerimedo’s defense.

Lizárraga stated that she requested Vega to step away from the defense after learning the complexity and potential danger of the case. She further denounced what she describes as a smear campaign aimed at discrediting her through the selective dissemination of judicial processes initiated during the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) administrations.

Regarding her legal standing, Lizárraga expressed readiness to answer to the justice system for her actions as a journalist and minister during the Jeanine Áñez government. She characterized a 2024 sentence related to bank movements between 2019 and 2020 as a product of political persecution and is currently collecting evidence to identify those responsible for the alleged disinformation campaign.
