Roxane Gay biopic premieres on Lifetime

Lifetime is premiering “Surviving the Silence: The Roxane Gay Story,” a film based on Roxane Gay’s 2017 memoir, “Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body.” Gay wrote the screenplay, serves as an executive producer, and provides narration for the project.

The film explores Gay’s journey through trauma, body image, and self-acceptance. It also depicts her relationship with her parents, Michael and Nicole Gay, who are of Haitian descent. The narrative highlights their support for their daughter during difficult periods in her life, including her transition back to education after dropping out of Yale.

The premiere is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5, at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime. Viewers without cable can access the broadcast through streaming services such as Philo and DIRECTV via free trial offers.
