Roy Drinkard, nation's oldest living U.S. Marine, dies at 106

Roy Henry Drinkard, recognized as the oldest living U.S. Marine in the nation, has died at the age of 106. A World War II veteran, Drinkard served as a private first class in the Pacific theater.

Beyond his military service, Drinkard was a prominent figure in Cullman, Alabama, contributing to the community through business, education, and civic leadership. He was a recipient of several honors, including the Great American Hero Award and the Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award from Troy University.

Drinkard was also noted for his support of military personnel; following an attack on service members in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he personally funded the installation of ballistic glass at the Cullman military recruiting office located in a building he owned.
