Roy Lichtenstein exhibition held at Kunstmuseum Basel

The Kunstmuseum Basel is hosting an exhibition focused on the work of pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. The showcase comes ahead of the 30th anniversary of the artist's death.

Lichtenstein is noted for his unique ability to incorporate humor and comic book aesthetics into fine art, representing consumer society and mass culture through seemingly simple images. His signature style involved the use of primary colors and the imitation of Ben-Day dots, an industrial printing technique used in comics to create chromatic variations through small colored circles.

His artistic journey evolved from early works influenced by cubism and expressionism to a period of abstract expressionism, before ultimately defining the Pop Art movement. His work transitioned from addressing typical American issues to utilizing prefabricated images from popular culture, eventually becoming more complex in his later years through painting and sculpture.
