Roy Price launches N1BW microdrama platform

Roy Price, the former head of Amazon Studios, has launched a new entertainment venture called Number One Best Website (N1BW). The platform focuses on the growing microdrama market, offering short-form vertical video series.

Unlike existing competitors such as ReelShort or DramaBox, which often rely on centralized, top-down production of specific genres like romance or mafia tropes, N1BW aims to function as a decentralized ecosystem similar to YouTube or TikTok. The platform allows users to create, upload, and fund their own microdramas while providing tools to find collaborators like directors and screenwriters.

Creators can monetize their content through a token-based system where viewers purchase currency to watch episodes. Additionally, creators can retain their intellectual property rights, though third parties may purchase them. Price, who oversaw early Amazon Studios productions such as ‘Transparent’ and ‘Bosch’ before resigning in 2017, describes the model as a distributed production system rather than a traditional studio approach.
