Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifa Released from Detention by Jakarta South Prosecutor

Indonesia's Jakarta South Prosecutor's Office ordered that Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifa (Tifauzia Tyassuma) remain free despite being named suspects in a defamation and document‑falsification case concerning President Joko Widodo's academic credentials. The prosecutors cited the presence of family guarantors – Suryo’s wife Ririn and Tifa’s child Adinda – and the suspects’ willingness to cooperate as reasons to deny pre‑trial detention, imposing only a weekly reporting requirement.

The case, transferred to the East Jakarta District Court, involves 714 items of evidence including documents, phones, flash drives and video recordings seized by police. Prosecutors indicated the investigation focuses on alleged violations of Articles 433, 434, and 441 of the Criminal Code and relevant provisions of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law. The legal process will continue with the suspects required to appear regularly at the prosecutor’s office.
