Roy Suryo thanks President Prabowo after detention suspended

Former Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo posted a video thanking President Prabowo Subianto after the South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office granted a suspension of his detention. The case involves an alleged defamation of former President Joko Widodo and accusations that Jokowi used a fake diploma. Suryo also expressed gratitude to the Attorney General’s Office, the police and other law‑enforcement bodies for their handling of the case and urged the public to continue supporting the investigation.

Political analyst Saiful Huda Ems commented that the suspension puts pressure on President Jokowi, noting that critics are demanding Jokowi present his genuine academic credentials. Ems warned that attempts to curb dissent through legal means could intensify public resistance, highlighting broader concerns about the politicisation of Indonesia’s justice system.
