Roy Suryo’s Arrest Triggers Legal Clash with President Jokowi

Indonesia’s former minister Roy Suryo was taken into custody by Metro Police, prompting his lawyer Ahmad Khozinudin to accuse President Joko Widodo of politicising the case. Khozinudin said the arrest shows that “law no longer bows to norms but to political attention,” and warned that any further detention would underscore a departure from constitutional rights, including Suryo’s right to appear on television.

The lawyer announced that the case will be transferred for further proceedings, giving the accused a chance to decide on their stance. He urged consistency with personal principles and referenced restorative‑justice alternatives, while asserting that those who remain steadfast will eventually see the results of their convictions.
