Roy Suryo's Pretrial Hearing Continues in Jakarta Court

The Jakarta Selatan District Court held a series of pretrial hearings on July 14‑16, 2026 to examine whether the suspect designation of former minister Roy Suryo by Polda Metro Jaya was lawful. The case concerns accusations that Suryo fabricated a diploma allegedly belonging to President Joko Widodo, invoking potential defamation.

On July 15 the police submitted a stack of documents as evidence and announced plans to call an expert witness. The defence presented three witnesses and a criminal law expert, Didit Wijayanto, who argued that the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE) provisions cited by prosecutors require electronic documents, whereas the case relies on physical paperwork. He suggested the allegations fit defamation rather than a cyber‑offense.

Judge Ketut Darpawan presided over the sessions, which concluded with each side submitting closing remarks. Roy Suryo attended the July 16 hearing in a black jacket and white shirt.
