Royal British Legion launches annual Poppy Appeal
The Royal British Legion has launched its annual Poppy Appeal in various locations across the United Kingdom to raise funds for serving and former members of the armed forces and their families.
In Swansea, the appeal commenced at Swansea Market with a ceremony featuring veterans, a piper, and the Lord Mayor, Cllr Penny Matthews. The launch included the creation of a garden of remembrance. Upcoming events in Swansea include a Cross of Peace ceremony at Dan Y Graig Cemetery on October 23, a Garden of Remembrance opening on November 1, and a Festival of Remembrance at Brangwyn Hall on November 7. Remembrance Sunday services will take place at the Cenotaph on November 8.
In Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge, the appeal is scheduled to launch on October 24. Organiser Ruth Crosby is seeking volunteers to collect donations at local supermarkets, including Tesco, Asda, Aldi, and Lidl, through November 7. A collection table will also be available at the local Royal British Legion branch.
