Royal Caribbean launches Legend of the Seas cruise ship in the Mediterranean

Royal Caribbean International has introduced the Legend of the Seas, the first Icon‑class vessel to operate in the Mediterranean. The ship began its inaugural cruise from Rome on 4 July, offering 7‑night Western Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona and Rome for the summer season. After two Mediterranean seasons it will reposition to Fort Lauderdale in November to run Caribbean cruises.

The launch coincides with a 20 % annual growth in the Spanish cruise market, prompting the line to deepen its presence in Spain with expanded agency incentives and a focus on longer booking windows. The vessel serves as a testbed for sustainability, using liquefied natural gas, advanced water‑recycling systems and aims to help the company meet its Net‑Zero 2050 target. Onboard amenities include 28 dining venues, a Hollywood‑themed supper club, a Silk‑Road‑inspired restaurant, a large waterpark, a sky‑walk zip line, and new theatrical productions such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Fusion" ice‑skating shows.
