Royal Caribbean ship diverted to Bahamas following medical emergencies

Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas has experienced significant travel disruptions after two passengers, including a seven-year-old child, required urgent medical attention. The massive vessel was forced to divert from its route toward New Jersey to Nassau, Bahamas, to debark the passengers for critical care.

The unplanned detour has delayed the ship’s expected arrival at Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, from 6:00 a.m. Sunday to approximately 2:00 p.m. Sunday. This delay is expected to impact thousands of travelers, including those scheduled to join the ship for its next sailing. To compensate for the schedule change, Royal Caribbean has announced it will cancel a scheduled stop at Port Canaveral, Florida, and will delay the subsequent sailing by up to eight hours.

Royal Caribbean stated that its medical staff determined the guests needed urgent care and confirmed that the passengers were successfully debarked. The cruise line has informed passengers that any affected flights will be “automatically adjusted” by their team, with the company covering air change fees up to $200 for domestic travel and $400 for international travel. The cruise line has not disclosed the nature of the illnesses or the current health status of the affected passengers.
