Royal Caribbean to debut SpongeBob Musical on Hero of the Seas

Royal Caribbean has announced that “The SpongeBob Musical” will debut as a headlining theater production on its upcoming Icon Class ship, Hero of the Seas. The Tony Award-winning Broadway show, inspired by the Nickelodeon animated series, is scheduled to make its first-ever at-sea appearance when the vessel sets sail from Miami in August 2027.

The production will be staged in the ship’s Royal Theater and follows the story of SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy Cheeks as they attempt to save Bikini Bottom from a volcanic eruption. The musical features an original score with contributions from various artists, including Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Sara Bareilles, and members of Aerosmith.

Christi Coachman, Vice President of Entertainment for Royal Caribbean, stated that the entertainment lineup for Hero of the Seas is designed to bring generations together through familiar stories and world-class production technology.
