Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas launches Mediterranean debut

Royal Caribbean International’s newest Icon‑class vessel, Legend of the Seas, began its European debut in late June. The 365‑metre, 248,000‑gross‑ton ship, capable of carrying up to 5,600 guests and 2,350 crew, departed Malaga on 29 June for a four‑night Mediterranean cruise to Rome via Civitavecchia, with a fireworks display over the Spanish coast.

The ship stopped in Cadiz for final outfitting and equipment checks before commencing passenger service on 4 July from Italy’s Civitavecchia. Built at Meyer Turku in Finland, Legend of the Seas left the yard on 15‑16 June, transiting the Baltic, North Sea and the English Channel before arriving in Spain. The vessel features a Central Park filled with 33,000 tropical plants, a large water‑park, zip‑line walkways, ice‑skating arena and 28 dining concepts, and runs on liquefied natural gas with shore‑power capability to support Royal Caribbean’s net‑zero‑by‑2035 goal.
